Rest In Peace, Tata Madiba
Wednesday, 11th December 2013

"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die. "— Rivonia Trial Speech, 1964

On the 5th December 2013, the world lost an icon that was renowned for humanitarian efforts. Nelson Mandela, born 1918, set the foundation for democracy in a country riddled with inequalities. Throughout his struggle, and despite 27 years in prison, he fought courageously with dignity and humility.

South Africa has lost its greatest son, but his efforts have transformed the country into an entity of hope. Despite the difficulties he encountered, he approached every challenge with respect for others. He taught us tolerance. Tata Madiba was also known for his enigmatic style, and his enduring sense of humour.

He was a father, a politician, an ambassador, a freedom fighter, a philanthropist and a well-respected international champion of human rights. His efforts in raising funds through the Nelson Mandela Children’s funds were unparalleled.

Today, we mourn the passing of a man who truly lived, and walked the path to freedom. Our condolences go out to the nation, his family and his friends.

Tata has left a legacy.
