Duplo finishing ‘muscle’ on show
Thursday, 27th November 2014

For over 60 years, Duplo has set the standard with its innovative, high-speed and reliable finishing products in the graphic arts industry and continues to lead the way in automation, productivity and cost-efficiency. Today, it manufactures a complete line of equipment from all-in-one slitter/cutter/creasers, folders and perfect binders to sheet-feeding, booklet making, and saddle stitching systems for offset and digital printers in both high production and small office environments.

In keeping with its policy for innovation, Duplo has recently introduced its new-generation, high-speed Duplo DC-646PRO slitter/cutter/creaser and, to unveil its outstanding capabilities, the Kemtek team, in collaboration with UK-based Duplo commercial marketing manager, Alex North, and regional sales manager for the Middle East and Africa, Rob Reid, recently hosted a special customer open house at the Centre of Digital Print Excellence in Johannesburg.

‘We were delighted to have Alex and Rob present for the special “reveal”,’ remarks Johan Faurie, Kemtek’s Duplo product specialist. ‘They were each available to demonstrate and discuss the measurable production and cost benefits of the Duplo technology one-on-one with various local customers.’

Building on the success of the popular DC-645, the feature rich DC-646PRO works as a multi-functional guillotine, creaser and perforator. Besides saving labour, time and space it cuts down the cost of multiple handling of sheets from one individual machine to another, and produces numerous finished applications from 28mm to one metre in length, such as business cards, post cards, greeting cards, clothing tags, boxes, T- and L-shaped perforated tickets and much more.
Its sturdy frame supports an impressive arsenal of features including marginal slitter module, a rotary tool module, two centre slitter modules, a creaser tool and a cross knife tool. Optional components include perforating, slit-scoring, micro-perforating/scoring in both directions and skip perforating multiple times. This allows operators to produce up to eight slits, 25 cross cuts and 20 creases in a single pass. Depending on the substrate used, up to one million cuts can be achieved before blade change is required.

‘Perhaps one of the most outstanding features on our Duplo slitter/cutter/creasers is the Superior Air Management System,’ declares Alex North. ‘This is a Duplo-developed mechanism for feeding that reduces the risk of sheet damage by using a combination of multiple air vents to lift and separate the sheets from the top of the capacity unit. The top sheet is picked up and then fed by vacuum using an ultra-wide feed head and registers to a side lay that is adjustable for image skew,’ he adds. ‘Overall, the Duplo DC-646PRO is an intuitive, easy-to-use device that offers ultra-quick set-up and top-quality, value-added finishing. Imagination is really the only limit to what can be achieved and, judging by the many positive enquiries received during the special open house, several local digital printers have full confidence in the Duplo technology and the exciting finishing opportunities it presents.’

Johan Faurie and Alex North presented the all-new Duplo DC-646PRO’s unique features and benefits.
